RURAL CENTRES:

Ridgemount Centre (Mandeville):

The Centre is located in Mandeville and serves the parishes of Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Clarendon as well as any other parish that finds it more convenient to use the facility.

Last March 9th, the Opening Ceremony was held at the Ridgemount United Church in Mandeville.

Different personalities assisted to the event, including the Minister of Health, Honorable John Junior M.P.; the Chairman of the Mico College Board, Mr. Karl James; the Pastor from the Ridgemount United Church, Rev J. Oliver Daley; the Mico College Principal, Dr Claude Packer; former Minister of Education, Dr. Mavis Gilmore; and as the guest speaker, Professor Errol Miller.

The extension of the Mico CARE Centre to the Mandeville area is a response to the challenge that Manchester and its adjoining parishes (along with the rest of Jamaica) are facing:  Too many children are not having their emotional, psychological, academic, social, spiritual and physical needs met.  Consequently there is underachievement, frustration of children, parents and teachers; misunderstanding and misdirection of many children and a need for special education services to be made accessible, available and affordable.

Satellite St. Ann:

The Centre has established a rural facility in St. Ann's Bay, St. Ann, to serve St. Ann and adjoining parishes.
